Doug Thomson
Doug Thomson is passionate about teaching and increasing his knowledge by learning. He grew up in Zimbabwe and received his Doctrine Degree in Philosophy in Criminology in South Africa at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Doug has studied and worked in a very diverse set of countries such as Canada, England, South Africa and Zimbabwe collecting over 20 years of teaching skills. Doug has an admirable academic interest in interpersonal violence, homicide and innovating teaching methods. He is currently a professor of the Bachelor of Applied Arts – Criminal Justice Degree Program at Humber College and has been a professor in this program since 2009.
Doug’s interest in co-creating the Justice @ Humber initiative was due to meeting many different interesting people from a variety of occupational backgrounds, to provide individuals the opportunity to speak their opinions.
Stephen Duggan
Steve came to Humber College after a 34-year career with the Toronto Police Service. However, Steve began teaching night classes at Humber College in the Law and Security Program. In 2008 after 34 years, Steve retired from policing but changed careers to become a full time instructor Humber College in the Police Foundations program. Currently he is the coordinator for the part-time Police Foundation and the Police Leadership programs.
Steve’s policing career included many facets of policing from walking the ‘Beat’, uniform patrol, divisional detective offices and Homicide Squad. In addition In the 1980s Steve founded the Street Crime Unit for the Toronto Police that was mandated to address the rise of criminal gangs. Additionally he was the officer in charge of Recruit Training Unit as well as the Employment Unit. Towards, the end of his policing career Steve was designated Liaison officer to the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General working with Crown Attorneys to ensure that all evidence was fully and professionally presented to the courts.
