Barrie Chief of Police Kimberley Greenwood started as an officer with the Toronto Police Service in 1981. Throughout her career, she hit many “first milestones” for female officers, paving the way for many more. She believes that the “glass ceiling” has been smashed for females in the workforce. Chief Greenwood believes that there is always room for opportunity and that everyone has the “opportunity to be ground breakers”. Upon becoming the ninth Barrie Police Chief, she was also the first female Police Chief for Barrie. Chief Greenwood states that her “firsts” in her policing career do not define her. This podcast was recorded at the 2nd Annual Criminal Justice Networking Gala hosted by a Humber student led group called the Young Criminal Justice Professionals.
Things to Consider:
- Out of all of Chief Greenwood’s golden rules, which do you think is the most important?
- What is it that women can offer in respect to job contributions that sets them apart from men?
- Why do you think women in policing are faced with career limitations?
How do you think the glass ceiling in the workforce has been broken?
